Frequently asked questions about buying and selling in the Canaries
Can foreigners buy property in Gran Canaria?
Yes. There are no restrictions on foreigners buying property in Spain, including the Canary Islands. You only need a NIE (foreigner tax number) and usually a Spanish bank account. We guide you through the entire process.
Do I need a NIE to buy?
Yes. The NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero) is the tax number required for any property purchase in Spain. We explain how and where to obtain it.
What additional costs should I budget when buying?
Besides the price, budget for taxes and fees: transfer tax (ITP) on resale homes or IGIC on new builds, notary, land registry and, if you wish, a lawyer. As a rough guide this is usually around 8-11% of the price. We break down every cost transparently before you decide.
Which areas does Canarias Paradise cover?
Our office is in Arguineguín (Mogán) in the south of Gran Canaria, and we handle property across Gran Canaria and the wider Canary Islands.
